This slice is inspired by the poem “Something You Should Know” by Clint Smith
she never told anyone She didn’t understand the poem by Emily Dickenson she was a reader and had two masters yet the words sitting quietly on the page meant nothing she tried she desperately tried atlas, they were only words written by a famous American poet one hundred years ago. Perhaps that is why she disliked poetry in high school and rarely chooses to read it today.

I love reading (and teaching!) poetry now, but it took me many years to get to that point after the high school years of feeling stupid because I could never get it. I never understood Emily Dickinson either--and still don't! I really enjoyed how you used your mentor text here.
